When you just can’t get it right.

Have you ever found yourself in a place where it seems like no matter what you do, you just can’t get it right?

Life is composed of many seasons and it’s safe to say that some seasons are more enjoyable than others. At times, it’s tough to transition from one to the next. One day, everything is going smoothly and then all of a sudden it feels like you’re being hit from every angle and you just don’t know what to do. It’s easy to question where you went wrong or to feel like you’re being punished somehow when so many things are out of whack.

I’ve recently found myself in a season where it seems like no matter what I do, I just can’t seem to get it right. It’s almost like every single day I see a new storm forming on the horizon. A close friend of mine reminded me to quit focusing on everything that isn’t going right, and in that moment, I realized that I was just making things worse for myself. Instead of focusing on everything that God has given me, I kept focusing on things that the devil was using against me. It’s so easy to sit there and look at our current circumstance, but we have to remember to look past it and not lean on our own understanding because God always has a plan.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”  Proverbs 3: 5-6

Sometimes God allows us to go through these seasons to remind us just how great He really is. It seems impossible to forget, but sometimes we do. The toughest seasons usually yield the most growth and sometimes it has to feel like we’re breaking in order for God to build us up. Sometimes it takes being isolated from everyone and feeling like we’re alone to realize that we truly aren’t. Sometimes we have to struggle  in order for God to show us His strength.  Once you make it through, this season of growth will become part of your testimony.

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”      Ecclesiastes 3:1

Sometimes you will be kept from the fire while other times God will place you in the center of the flames. Making you fireproof. Refining you and burning away the impurities. There is a purpose in the pain. There is a purpose in the preparation. It’s not always easy, but God is preparing you for what’s next.

We live in a “have it your way” society and are so used to having things when we want them. We are used to doing things on our terms and our time. While we may get a little eager sometimes, it’s important to remember that God’s timing is perfect and that He is never late.  Maybe you’re in the right place, but you arrived a little early so God temporarily removes you to do some work  because you’re not ready yet – preparing you and bringing you back to the right place but now at the correct time.

Just as Abraham was tested, God may be testing your obedience. Trust in Him and have faith that everything is going to be okay. When everything feels like it’s going wrong, it’s so easy to just throw your hands up in the air and say “I give up”, but I urge you to push forward. Just be still while God controls the storm around you. Allow yourself to learn. Allow yourself to grow. God knows your heart and He knows your battle. He has fought it before you and he is fighting it for you now. When you’re ready, God will bring you out of this season and lead you into the next.

“The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
